What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Kee) is a form of Japanese Energy healing,
“discovered” by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui.

The word Reiki is made up of two Japenese words, loosely translated as –
Rei meaning Universal/all encompassing energy of The One and Ki – which is the Life Force.

It is believed that illness and injury can be caused by, or lead to a
block in the meridians and energetic system of the body. In essence Reiki
is the practice of channelling Universal Energy through ones body, to
oneself, to another human being or animal or anywhere. The energy flows to
the recipient, permeating through any blocks, allowing the body to heal
itself.

Reiki is normally practised as a ‘hands off’ therapy and can be practised
at a distance also.

How can Reiki help?
Reiki breaks through the blockages in systems, allowing the body to heal
itself so it can be beneficial for everyone, even if you feel tip-top. It
can help:

Physically:
* Aches * Sprains * Strains * Fractures * Illness * Diseases * Recovery *

Emotionally:
* Bereavement * Break-Ups * Stress & Anxiety * Depression * Lack of Self
Confidence * Lack of Self Worth *

Spiritually:
* Removing blocks * Aiding connection to higher realms *

How is Reiki is performed?
After an initial consultation (including answering any questions you may
have), my human patients will normally make themselves comfortable, either
by sitting in a chair or lying on a massage couch. I will then begin the
Reiki Treatment which consists of me working around the body either hands on or hands off in the aura, allowing the recipient to remain fully clothed.

Again after an initial consultation, when dealing with animals I normally
work in whatever location they most feel comfortable in. In some cases
with horses this can mean a stable, or if they are nervous of humans it
can be performed just standing in a field at distance. For house
animals/pets reiki can be performed inside or outside.

What happens when Reiki is performed?
Some people report feelings of deep relaxation, some feel temperature
differences, a buzzing feeling and some feel nothing. Reiki will have a
personal effect on each recipient.

Animals normally show signs of relaxation quickly when reiki is given.
They have been known to go to sleep, yawn, lick and chew or show physical signs that the energy is moving around the body such as muscle quivering.

What happens after a treatment?
I advise that after a treatment, human or animal, that time is allowed for
the patient to rest. Working animals should be given the rest of the day
off (or at least 6 hours) as Reiki will continue to go round the system
after the treatment has stopped.

There are rarely side effects to Reiki other than being deeply relaxed.
Sometimes the body can go through a ‘healing crisis’ presenting as a runny
nose or tiredness but symptoms are rare and will normally subside within
24 hours.

How many treatments? and how much?
This is completely down to the individual and will be discussed at the end
of the first session.

Why Reiki?
To me, Reiki is a nice, non-invasive therapy that can be of benefit to
nearly everyone who receives it. For humans it is a nice break from the
hustle and bustle of normal life, it can help start to form a bond with

The Legal Side
I am fully insured to practice Reiki on Horses and Humans.
As a Reiki Practitioner I am bound by The Veterinary Surgery Act of 1966,
prohibiting anyone other than a qualified Veterinary Surgeon from
diagnosing ailments. The healing of animals by laying of hands however is
legal. Under The Protection of Animals Act 1911 it is illegal for
veterinary treatment to be withheld from an animal. Reiki is a
complementary therapy and if under supervision of a vet or injured,
permission must be obtained by the owner from the vet for a treatment to
take place.
